Investigates and develops methods for delivering continuing education programs at the national, chapter, and regional level; assembles information on career opportunities in the field of art and visual resource librarianship for distribution by the Society to prospective art librarians; develops and recommends standards for art librarianship to library schools (to be revised periodically); creates standards and develops guidelines and evaluation methods for workshops, seminars, symposia, and panels; and oversees and reports on activities and initiatives of constituent subcommittees as established by the Executive Board.
The PDC Bulletin, a quarterly update, is compiled by the Professional Development Committee (PDC) to spread the word about professional development resources and opportunities for art information professionals. Your input is welcome. If you have something to share, please contact the committee.

ARLIS/NA Learning Portal
Developed and implemented by the Education Subcommittee, the ARLIS/NA Learning Portal is an open access repository of professional development events and resources produced by ARLIS/NA members. Annual Conference sessions, webinars, Lunchtime Chats, and other Society-driven content focus on current issues most important to the art library community in a rapidly changing collections, services and technology-driven environment.
The Learning Portal Coordinator manages the Learning Portal with the support of other Professional Development Committee members.
Webinars and Lunchtime Chats
The Education Subcommittee develops and hosts webinars and lunchtime chats on a diverse range of topics important to art information professionals. Webinar recordings and chat transcripts are made available on the ARLIS/NA Learning Portal.
National Digital Stewardship Residency Art
National Digital Stewardship Residency (NDSR) Art is an iteration of the NDSR program that began in 2013, with a pilot project developed by the Library of Congress in conjunction with the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The NDSR program was developed to bridge the gap between existing, well developed classroom education and the need for more direct professional experience in the field. The program serves several different populations: students interested in the field of digital stewardship, partnering institutions, and the broader cultural heritage community. The mission of the National Digital Stewardship Residency (NDSR) is to build a dedicated community of professionals who will advance our nation’s capabilities in managing, preserving, and making accessible the digital record of human achievement.
